Target Information
DISC1 (Disrupted in Schizophrenia 1) is a multifunctional protein interacting with various centrosomal and cytoskeletal proteins. It plays a crucial role in neuronal functions such as migration, neurite architecture, and intracellular transport. DISC1 is expressed in brain regions including the hippocampus, amygdala, cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and hypothalamus. Mutations or translocations involving DISC1 are associated with schizophrenia. The DISC1 protein contains both globular N-terminal and helical C-terminal domains, facilitating interactions with proteins like MIPT3, MAP1A, NUDEL, alpha-actinin 2, beta 4-spectrin, ATF-4, and ATF-5. Decreased DISC1 expression leads to abnormal neuronal development, implicating its role in dendritic growth and synapse formation.
