Target Information

The intronless gene for this transcription coactivator is located between the protocadherin beta and gamma gene clusters on chromosome 5. The encoded protein is a component of the TFIID complex, which binds to the TATA box in class II promoters and recruits RNA polymerase II and other transcription factors. This subunit interacts with the largest TFIID subunit and multiple transcription activators, and is essential for transcription by RNA polymerase II–targeted promoters. The TFIID complex consists of the TATA-binding protein (TBP) and TBP-associated factors (TAFs), which together assemble the transcription preinitiation complex.
