Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses, one utilizing NAD and the other NADP as electron acceptors.
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported: three NAD-dependent forms localized to the mitochondrial matrix, and two NADP-dependent forms—one mitochondrial and one cytosolic.
The NADP-dependent mitochondrial isozyme encoded by this gene plays a role in intermediary metabolism and energy production, and may associate with the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
