SUMO2는 SUMO (small ubiquitin-like modifier) 단백질 계열의 구성원으로, 단백질의 번역 후 수정(post-translational modification)에 관여합니다. 이 단백질은 핵 내 수송, 전사 조절, 세포자멸사(apoptosis), 단백질 안정성 등 다양한 세포 과정에 관여합니다. SUMO2와 SUMO3는 SUMO1과 기능적으로 구별되며, SUMO2/3의 N-말단 영역에 존재하는 수정 부위는 SAE1/SAE2 (SUMO E1) 및 Ubc9 (SUMO E2)에 의해 폴리머 체인을 형성할 수 있습니다.
