Target Information
Mox1 and the glycoprotein gp91-phox are essential components of the NADPH oxidase complex, which generates superoxide in phagocytes, neuroepithelial bodies, vascular smooth muscle cells, and endothelial cells. This complex includes membrane-bound flavocytochrome subunits (gp91-phox and p22-phox) and cytosolic proteins (p47-phox, p67-phox). The gp91-phox and p22-phox subunits also serve as surface O₂ sensors that initiate cellular signaling in response to hypoxia.
Mox1 and gp91 share identical C-terminal sequence identity but have distinct expression patterns: gp91-phox is expressed in eosinophils, neutrophils, monocytes, and B-lymphocytes, while Mox1 is mainly found in the colon, with low expression in the uterus and prostate.
