Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known to regulate programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their anti-apoptotic functions. Its activity is regulated by phosphorylation through kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and by dephosphorylation via calcineurin. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
