Target Information
The CD1C gene encodes a member of the CD1 family of transmembrane glycoproteins, structurally related to MHC proteins, and forms heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin. CD1 proteins mediate the presentation of lipid and glycolipid antigens of self or microbial origin to T cells.
The human genome contains five CD1 family genes located on chromosome 1. These members differ in localization and lipid ligand specificity. The CD1C protein localizes to late endosomes and lysosomes via a tyrosine-based motif in its cytoplasmic tail and requires vesicular acidification for lipid antigen binding.
