Target Information
Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. They exhibit diversity in distribution and localization and participate in calcification, bone resorption, respiration, acid-base balance, and formation of various body fluids.
CA VB (Carbonate Dehydratase VB) is one of two isoforms of CA V, localized to mitochondria and involved in metabolic processes. It is expressed mainly in heart, pancreas, lung, placenta, kidney, and skeletal muscle. Unlike CA VA, it is not expressed in the liver, indicating a distinct physiological role.
