Target Information
UGT8 (UDP-galactose-ceramide galactosyltransferase, 2-hydroxyacylsphingosine 1-beta-galactosyltransferase) is a 541 amino acid, single-pass membrane protein belonging to the UDP-glycosyltransferase family. It is primarily involved in sphingolipid metabolism and galactosylceramide biosynthesis. Elevated UGT8 expression correlates with increased risk of lung metastases in breast cancer, making it a potential prognostic marker for tumor aggressiveness. UGT8 is ubiquitously expressed, with highest levels in central and peripheral nervous systems, and is up-regulated in breast cancers.
