Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian members include six isoforms grouped into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx. Except for Prx VI, which belongs to the 1-Cys subgroup, the other five 2-Cys Prx isotypes have thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity utilizing thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH. Mammalian Prxs are 20–30 kDa proteins localized variously: Prx I, II, and VI in cytosol; Prx III in mitochondria; Prx IV in ER and secretion; and Prx V in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol.
