Target Information
The Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) family of proteins share similar domain structures and are involved in transduction of signals from receptors on the cell surface to the actin cytoskeleton. These proteins interact with multiple partners and are regulated by various stimuli. They associate with the small GTPase Cdc42, which regulates actin filament formation, and the Arp2/3 complex. The WASL gene product, a homolog of the WAS protein, is ubiquitously expressed with highest expression in neural tissues. It binds directly to Cdc42 and induces formation of long actin microspikes.
