Target Information
SPERT (spermatid associated protein), also known as CBY2 (chibby homolog 2) or NURIT, is a novel leucine-zipper protein belonging to the chibby family. It is uniquely expressed in the spermatid flower-like structure and interacts with Nek1, a kinase associated with centrosomal stability and ciliogenesis. SPERT contains a leucine-zipper motif and two coiled-coil regions, and is transcribed during the elongation stage of spermatids. It is absent from mature spermatozoa and thought to participate in protein transport for residual body formation.
