Target Information
Muscarinic acetylcholine receptor M4 is a subtype of acetylcholine receptor. Unlike the M2 receptor, M4 is not involved in smooth muscle contraction. Although its clinical relevance is not fully understood, mouse studies suggest its role in adenylyl cyclase inhibition. M4 receptor expression has been reported in various regions of the rat brain, particularly in the striatum and hippocampus. ESTs have been isolated from human breast and eye libraries.
