UGT1A6은 UDP-glucuronosyltransferase로, 글루쿠로니드화 경로에서 스테로이드, 빌리루빈, 호르몬, 약물과 같은 소수성 분자를 수용성 대사산물로 전환시키는 효소입니다.
이 유전자는 여러 UDP-glucuronosyltransferase를 암호화하는 복합 유전자좌의 일부이며, 13개의 고유한 첫 번째 엑손과 4개의 공통 엑손으로 구성되어 있습니다.
9개의 첫 번째 엑손은 공통 엑손과 스플라이싱되어 서로 다른 N-말단과 동일한 C-말단을 가진 9개의 단백질을 생성합니다. 각 첫 번째 엑손은 기질 결합 부위를 암호화하며, 자체 프로모터에 의해 조절됩니다.
이 효소는 페놀성 및 평면 구조 화합물에 작용하며, 5' 말단의 대체 스플라이싱으로 두 가지 전사 변이체가 생성됩니다.
