PCNA (Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen)는 DNA 복제에 필수적인 단백질로, DNA 절제 및 불일치 수선 경로에 관여합니다.
CDK 억제제 p21, 엔도뉴클레아제 Fen1 및 XPG, DNA 메틸트랜스퍼레이스 MCMT와 결합합니다.
세포 증식 잠재력을 가진 세포의 표지자로 활용되며, 종양 조직의 증식 상태 평가에도 유용합니다.
PCNA는 G1 및 S기 세포에서 핵 내에 존재하며, DNA polymerase δ의 보조인자로 작용합니다.
DNA 손상 시 PCNA는 유비퀴틴화되어 RAD6 의존적 DNA 복구 경로에 관여합니다.
두 가지 전사 변이체가 동일한 단백질을 암호화하며, 염색체 4번과 X 염색체에 위유전자(pseudogene)가 존재합니다.
