Target Information
HOPX is an atypical homeodomain protein which does not bind DNA and is required to modulate cardiac growth and development. It acts via interaction with SRF, modulating expression of SRF-dependent cardiac-specific genes. HOPX prevents SRF-dependent transcription by inhibiting SRF binding to DNA or recruiting histone deacetylase (HDAC) proteins. Overexpression of HOPX causes cardiac hypertrophy and may act as a tumor suppressor.
