이 단백질은 Ser/Thr protein kinase 계열에 속하며, p38 MAP kinase에 의해 직접 인산화되어 조절됩니다.
MAPKAPK2와 p38 MAP kinase는 함께 세포 스트레스 반응 및 염증 반응 조절에 중요한 역할을 하며, HSP27이 이 키나아제의 기질로 알려져 있습니다.
두 가지 서로 다른 isoform을 암호화하는 transcript variant가 보고되었습니다.
