Target Information
This gene encodes N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfatase, a lysosomal exohydrolase required for the degradation of glycosaminoglycans such as keratan sulfate and chondroitin 6-sulfate.
Sequence alterations (point, missense, nonsense mutations, and splicing defects) lead to enzyme deficiency associated with Morquio A syndrome, a lysosomal storage disorder.
