Target Information
Neuregulin 1 (NRG1) is a 44-kD glycoprotein interacting with the NEU/ERBB2 receptor tyrosine kinase to increase phosphorylation on tyrosine residues. Multiple isoforms are produced by alternative splicing, including heregulins (HRGs), glial growth factors (GGFs), and sensory and motor neuron-derived factor (SMDF).
These isoforms are tissue-specific and structurally distinct:
- HRG isoforms: Contain immunoglobulin (Ig) and epidermal growth factor-like (EGF-like) domains.
- GGF/GGF2 isoforms: Include kringle-like sequence plus Ig and EGF-like domains.
- SMDF isoform: Shares only the EGF-like domain.
All NRG1 isoforms interact with ERBB family tyrosine kinase receptors, inducing growth and differentiation of epithelial, neuronal, glial, and other cell types.
