Target Information
The ECHS1 gene encodes a mitochondrial enzyme involved in the second step of the fatty acid β-oxidation pathway. It catalyzes the hydration of 2-trans-enoyl-coenzyme A intermediates to L-3-hydroxyacyl-CoAs. The protein belongs to the hydratase/isomerase superfamily and localizes to the mitochondrial matrix. Multiple transcript variants have been described.
