Background Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are complex ion channels with diverse physiological roles, including regulation of neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume. This gene encodes a delayed rectifier potassium channel of the shab-related subfamily, whose activity is modulated by other family members. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
