Target Information
Replication factor C (RFC) is an essential DNA polymerase accessory protein required for multiple DNA metabolic processes including replication, repair, and telomere maintenance. RFC forms a heteropentameric complex that recognizes primer-template DNA, binds the primer terminus, and loads proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) onto DNA in an ATP-dependent manner. All five RFC subunits share conserved RFC box sequences with nucleotide-binding motifs. Four subunits (RFC1–RFC4) contain ATP-binding motifs. Smaller RFC proteins (RFC2–RFC5) interact with Rad24, while RFC1 does not. RFC2, the third-largest subunit, binds ATP and plays a role in DNA replication and checkpoint control.
