Target Information
AGO3 (Argonaute-3) is a protein required for RNA-mediated gene silencing (RNA interference). It binds short RNAs such as microRNAs (miRNAs) and represses translation of complementary mRNAs. AGO3 is proposed to stabilize small RNA derivatives (riRNA) derived from RNA polymerase III-transcribed Alu repeats containing a DR2 retinoic acid response element (RARE) in stem cells and to facilitate riRNA-dependent degradation of certain RNA polymerase II-transcribed mRNAs by recruiting an mRNA decapping complex involving EDC4.
