Target Information
Neurensin-2 (NRSN2) is a 204 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein belonging to the VMP family that may be involved in vesicle transport and maintenance.
It is expressed in brain tissue, localized to cell bodies of the hippocampus, diagonal band, amygdaloid nucleus, and habenula nucleus.
NRSN2 is considered a potential tumor suppressor gene and candidate biomarker for long-term survival in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
The gene encoding Neurensin-2 maps to human chromosome 20, which contains approximately 63 million bases and over 600 genes, some associated with neurological and genetic disorders such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, ALS, spinal muscular atrophy, and Alagille syndrome.
Chromosome 20 also includes regions related to seminal production, potentially important for male contraception research.
