Target Information
MEF2C is a transcription activator binding to the MEF2 element found in regulatory regions of muscle-specific genes. It controls cardiac morphogenesis, myogenesis, and vascular development. MEF2C plays a critical role in hippocampal-dependent learning and memory by regulating excitatory synapses and synaptic transmission. It is essential for neuronal development, cortical organization, and normal electrical activity. MEF2C also contributes to megakaryocyte and platelet development, bone marrow B lymphopoiesis, and B-cell survival and proliferation. It supports IgG1 antibody responses and germinal center B-cell induction. Isoform 3 and 4, lacking the repressor domain, exhibit higher activity than isoforms 1 and 2.
