- Specificity Comments:
SPARC (secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine) is a phosphorylated, acidic, glycine-rich glycoprotein secreted by endothelial cells. It is identical to osteonectin, a protein important for bone calcification and highly conserved among species. SPARC regulates endothelial barrier function through F-actin–dependent cell shape changes and can promote macromolecule extravasation via intercellular gaps.
Target Information
SPARC gene encodes a cysteine-rich, acidic, matrix-associated protein essential for bone collagen calcification and extracellular matrix synthesis. It influences cell shape and has been linked to both tumor suppression and metastasis. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
