This antibody detects endogenous levels of total CDK5R1/p35.
Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene (p35) is a neuron-specific activator of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5). Activation of CDK5 is essential for proper central nervous system development. The p35 protein can be cleaved by calpain to form p25, which relocates from the cell periphery to nuclear and perinuclear regions. The p25 form deregulates CDK5 activity by prolonging activation and altering localization. Accumulation of p25 in neurons of Alzheimer’s disease patients correlates with increased CDK5 activity and abnormal phosphorylation of tau protein, contributing to disease pathology.
