Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, which shows periodic expression during the cell cycle. Cyclins regulate CDK kinases, and their distinct expression and degradation patterns contribute to the timing of mitotic events. Cyclin T2 and its kinase partner CDK9 form subunits of the transcription elongation factor p-TEFb. This complex interacts with and negatively regulates the HIV-1 Tat protein. A pseudogene of this gene exists on chromosome 1, and alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
