Target Information

BCL-XL is a member of the BCL-2 protein family, which forms hetero- or homodimers and acts as regulators of apoptosis. It is located at the outer mitochondrial membrane and influences VDAC channel opening, thereby controlling mitochondrial membrane potential, reactive oxygen species production, and cytochrome C release. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants exist: the longer isoform inhibits apoptosis, while the shorter isoform promotes it.
