Target Information

The urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR, also known as PLAUR) regulates cell-surface plasminogen activation and plays an essential role in both normal and pathological processes.
Human PLAUR cDNA encodes 335 amino acids, including a 22-residue signal peptide and a hydrophobic C-terminal region. It forms a glycosylated 50 kDa protein anchored to the plasma membrane via a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol linkage.

PLAUR interacts with the carbohydrate-binding domain of SELL in neutrophil membranes, similarly to its association with beta-2 integrins. PLAUR-mediated calcium mobilization is SELL dependent.
UPAR mRNA levels correlate with the invasive potential of endometrial carcinomas, showing a 33-fold increase in advanced stages compared to normal tissue. Elevated UPAR expression is linked to recurrence and mortality, suggesting its value as a prognostic marker for advanced endometrial cancer.
