Target Information
The BBSome complex functions as a coat complex required for sorting of specific membrane proteins to the primary cilia. It is essential for ciliogenesis but dispensable for centriolar satellite function. This process involves Rab8 GDP/GTP exchange factor, which localizes to the basal body and interacts with the BBSome. Rab8(GTP) promotes extension of the ciliary membrane by facilitating vesicle docking and fusion at the ciliary base. Proper BBSome complex assembly and localization are required for this function.
