Target Information
The T-box (Tbx) motif is present in a family of genes whose structural features and expression patterns support their involvement in developmental gene regulation. The Tbx gene family is largely conserved throughout metazoan evolution and encodes transcription factors with a uniquely defining DNA-binding domain. Mutations in Tbx genes are associated with several human diseases. Functional mechanisms of Tbx products have been studied mainly from the prototypical T/Brachyury, which acts as a transcription activator. Tbx genes are implicated in various developmental processes, from germ layer formation to central nervous system patterning.
