Target Information
Zinc is the second most abundant trace metal in the human body. It plays essential structural and catalytic roles in DNA-binding proteins and metalloenzymes such as pancreatic carboxypeptidases, alkaline phosphatases, dehydrogenases, and superoxide dismutases.
SLC30A4 (also known as ZNT4) belongs to the ZNT family of zinc transporters, which are responsible for transporting zinc out of the cytoplasm. ZNT proteins share structural features including six transmembrane domains and a histidine-rich cytoplasmic loop (Huang and Gitschier, 1997).
