Target Information

GRK7 is a serine/threonine kinase specifically expressed in the retina. It phosphorylates cone opsins and initiates their deactivation. Protein kinases mediate signal transduction in eukaryotic cells, regulating metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, cell movement, apoptosis, and differentiation.
The protein kinase family includes over 500 gene products and is classified into 8 major groups based on catalytic domain sequences. Tyrosine kinases (TK) regulate cell-cell interactions such as differentiation, adhesion, motility, and death. There are ~90 TK genes, including receptor TKs (EGFR, EPH, FGFR, PDGFR, TRK, VEGFR) and cytosolic TKs (ABL, FAK, JAK, SRC).
