Product Specific Information

  • Antibody is stable for 24 months.
  • Positive Control: Human liver, kidney, or spleen.
  • Cellular Localization: Secreted.
  • Specificity Comments:
Lipids such as phospholipids, triacylglycerols, and cholesterol are weakly soluble in aqueous solution and transported as components of lipoproteins. Lipoproteins consist of a non-polar core surrounded by phospholipid, cholesterol, and apolipoproteins. Apolipoprotein D (apoD) is part of the lipocalin superfamily, binding small hydrophobic molecules like arachidonic acid (AA). Its ability to bind AA suggests involvement in membrane phospholipid signal transduction and metabolism. ApoD expression correlates with cell cycle arrest and prognosis in several malignancies, including astrocytomas and medulloblastomas.

Target Information

Apolipoprotein D (APOD) is a component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) with no marked similarity to other apolipoproteins. It shares homology with plasma retinol-binding protein and alpha-2 microglobulin superfamily members (lipocalins). This glycoprotein is closely associated with lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase, an enzyme involved in lipoprotein metabolism.
