Target Information
Adipose tissue plays a major role in regulating metabolism and immunity by producing bioactive molecules termed adipokines. The adiponectin/ACRP30 family and its paralogs, CTRPs 1–7, are highly conserved. Unlike adiponectin, which is expressed exclusively by adipocytes, CTRPs are found in various tissues. Structural analysis suggests a common ancestral link between TNF and C1q-containing proteins. Multiple isoforms of human CTRP3 have been reported, and it may play a role in skeletal development.
