Target Information
Interleukin 2 (IL-2) is an immunomodulatory cytokine essential for proliferation of activated T cells and differentiation of B cells, NK cells, monocytes, and macrophages.
IL-2 signals through the IL-2 receptor (IL-2R), a heterotrimeric complex sharing the gamma chain with IL-4 and IL-7.
In mature thymocytes, IL-2 gene expression is monoallelic, indicating unique regulatory control.
Disruption of IL-2–like genes in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, underscoring its critical role in immune regulation.
