Target Information
Peripheral Myelin Protein 22 (PMP22) is a 160 amino acid glycoprotein belonging to the claudin family. It plays an important role in the structure of peripheral nerve myelin. Mutations in this gene are associated with hereditary demyelinating neuropathies. PMP22 protein is found in the compact myelin of adult human peripheral nerves, with a distribution similar to Myelin Protein Zero (P0).
