이 유전자는 3-oxoacid CoA-transferase 유전자 계열에 속하는 단백질을 암호화합니다. 해당 단백질은 미토콘드리아 매트릭스 내에서 호모다이머 형태로 존재하며, succinyl-CoA로부터 acetoacetate로 coenzyme A를 가역적으로 전달하는 반응을 촉매하여 간 외 케톤체 대사에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 succinyl CoA:3-oxoacid CoA transferase 결핍증과 관련이 있습니다.
