Target Information
MHC class II gene expression is primarily controlled at the transcriptional level by transcription factors binding to the X and Y boxes, two highly conserved promoter elements.
NFX1 is a transcriptional repressor that binds to the conserved X box motif of HLA-DRA and other MHC class II genes in vitro. It may regulate the duration of inflammatory responses by limiting the period during which class II MHC molecules are induced by IFN-gamma.
Three alternative splice variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
