Target Information
This gene belongs to the vacuolar protein sorting (VPS) gene family. The encoded protein is a component of the retromer complex, which mediates retrograde transport of proteins from endosomes to the trans-Golgi network. The structural similarity between yeast and human retromer components suggests functional conservation. Expression studies indicate that VPS26A interacts directly with VPS35, the core of the retromer complex. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
