Target Information
CpG methylation is an epigenetic modification important for embryonic development, imprinting, and X-chromosome inactivation. DNA methylation is required for mammalian development. This gene encodes a protein similar to DNA methyltransferases but lacking methyltransferase activity. The protein binds strongly to DNA, suggesting it may mark specific genomic sequences. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
