This antibody detects endogenous levels of total SELM protein.
Target Information
A growing body of evidence relates selenium to cancer prevention, immune system function, male fertility, cardiovascular disorders, and regulation of aging and neurodegenerative processes.
Selenoproteins are believed to mediate most of these biological effects of selenium. Approximately 17 selenoproteins have been identified to date.
Although the functions of many selenoproteins remain unknown, some play important roles in antioxidant defense and redox regulation through thiol/disulfide exchange.
Selenoprotein M (SelM) is highly expressed in the mammalian brain and localized to perinuclear structures (Golgi/ER). Its precise roles are still under investigation.
