CYP51A1은 지모스테롤 및 스테로이드 생합성에 중요한 효소로, lanosterol의 C14-탈메틸화를 촉매하여 4,4'-dimethyl cholesta-8,14,24-triene-3-beta-ol로 전환시킵니다.
이 단백질은 간, 난소, 고환, 폐, 신장, 전립선 등에서 높은 수준으로 발현됩니다.
