Target Information
This gene is a paralog of the SMN1 gene, which encodes the survival motor neuron protein. Mutations in SMN1 cause autosomal recessive proximal spinal muscular atrophy. The SMNDC1-encoded protein is a nuclear constituent of the spliceosome complex, highly expressed in skeletal muscle, and may share similar cellular functions as SMN1.
