P-type adenosinetriphosphatases (P-type ATPases)는 ATP 가수분해 에너지를 이용하여 이온을 막을 통해 이동시키는 단백질 계열입니다. 여러 하위 패밀리가 존재하며, 일부는 중금속 이온을, 다른 일부는 비중금속 이온(NMHI)을 수송합니다. ATP8A1은 세 번째 하위 패밀리에 속하며, phosphatidylserine과 같은 amphipath를 수송하는 역할을 합니다. 본 유전자는 두 가지 이소폼을 암호화하는 전사 변이체를 가집니다.
