This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD324 / E-cadherin, an approximately 100 kDa epithelial cell adhesion molecule. Detection of E-cadherin is important for determining the invasive potential of epithelial neoplasms.
Target Information
E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin belonging to the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. It is a cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail.
Mutations in the CDH1 gene (chromosome 16) are associated with gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancers. Loss of E-cadherin function contributes to tumor progression by enhancing proliferation, invasion, and metastasis.
E-cadherin also mediates bacterial adhesion to mammalian cells and is essential for maintaining epithelial tissue integrity and architecture.
