Neurogenin-2는 신경 발생에 중요한 역할을 하는 basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) 전사인자 유전자군의 일원입니다. Neurogenin 1과 함께 중추 및 말초 신경계의 서로 다른 전구세포 집단에서 발현되며, 신경 전구세포의 결정에 필수적인 기능을 수행합니다. Ngn1은 두개 감각 신경절의 근위부 전구세포 결정에, Ngn2는 epibranchial placode 유래 감각 뉴런 전구세포 결정에 필요합니다.
