Target Information

Casein kinase II (CK2) is a serine/threonine protein kinase present in all eukaryotic cells and plays a fundamental role in cellular functions. The holoenzyme is a tetramer composed of two catalytic alpha or alpha-prime subunits and two regulatory beta subunits. The alpha subunit serves as the catalytic unit, while the beta subunit’s function remains unclear.

CK2 phosphorylates key intracellular signaling proteins involved in tumor suppression (p53, PTEN) and tumorigenesis (myc, jun, NF-κB). It also influences Wnt signaling via β-catenin phosphorylation and the PI3K/Akt pathway.
