Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is an adaptor molecule that interacts with various cell surface receptors and mediates apoptotic signaling. Through its C-terminal death domain, it can be recruited by TNFRSF6/Fas receptor, TNFRSF25, and TNFSF10/TRAIL receptor, participating in receptor-mediated death signaling. This interaction exposes the N-terminal effector domain, allowing recruitment of caspase-8 and activation of the cysteine protease cascade. Knockout studies in mice suggest its importance in early T cell development.
